Summary

Tell Me Lies is a sexy, thrilling novel about that one person who still haunts you—the other one。 The wrong one。 The one you couldn’t let go of。 The one you’ll never forget。

Lucy Albright is far from her Long Island upbringing when she arrives on the campus of her small California college and happy to be hundreds of miles from her mother—whom she’s never forgiven for an act of betrayal in her early teen years。 Quickly grasping at her fresh start, Lucy embraces college life and all it has to offer。 And then she meets Stephen DeMarco。 Charming。 Attractive。 Complicated。 Devastating。

Confident and cocksure, Stephen sees something in Lucy that no one else has, and she’s quickly seduced by this vision of herself, and the sense of possibility that his attention brings her。 Meanwhile, Stephen is determined to forget an incident buried in his past that, if exposed, could ruin him, and his single-minded drive for success extends to winning, and keeping, Lucy’s heart。

Lucy knows there’s something about Stephen that isn’t to be trusted。 Stephen knows Lucy can’t tear herself away。 And their addicting entanglement will have consequences they never could have imagined。

Alternating between Lucy’s and Stephen’s voices, Tell Me Lies follows their connection through college and post-college life in New York City。

the type of book where the author makes you HATE the main characters。 found myself seething with anger at both lucy and stephen, but very good writing and a compelling story also no spoilers here, but the big event from stephens past??? WTF TW: lots of mentions of eating disorders and eating disorder related-thinking, drug addiction

An emotional rollercoaster, but not necessarily in a bad way

This book is toxic trash and should not be given any more attention。 Emotions do get the best of us in our teen years, and we are more susceptible to gaslighting tendencies, but wow。 Just wow。 Have to have more faith that people will be better。 I would SKIP it。

this was horrible。 the worst book i’ve read this year。 incredibly triggering for people who struggle with EDs or body image issues。

This book was excellent, but it was also somewhat hard to read because of the emotions that were so real and raw。 Although I didn't go through the specific "unspeakable thing" that Lucy and her mother went through, I feel like I can relate to the problematic and strained relationship between mother and daughter。 A man like Stephen is precisely who I most fear meeting while I'm in college。 Sometimes we can't help who we love and who we want to be around, even if it's always toxic in the end。 Rela This book was excellent, but it was also somewhat hard to read because of the emotions that were so real and raw。 Although I didn't go through the specific "unspeakable thing" that Lucy and her mother went through, I feel like I can relate to the problematic and strained relationship between mother and daughter。 A man like Stephen is precisely who I most fear meeting while I'm in college。 Sometimes we can't help who we love and who we want to be around, even if it's always toxic in the end。 Relationships like the one between Lucy and Stephen are dangerously common, and Carola Lovering did a fabulous job writing about all the bad and good feelings surrounding relationships like these。 。。。more

This was like a scene from real life。 Everyone has had a Stephen DeMarco and if you haven’t, consider yourself lucky。 Lucy’s character development took a while but once she gets there you really want to clap and say, “Yes girl! I knew you could do it。” 4 stars because the beginning was slow but overall the storyline keeps you captivated。 Captivated because you want Stephen to learn a lesson or captivated because you want to see how long it take Lucy to get it together…you be the judge。

The people giving this book 1-3 stars must have never met anyone like Stephen, because that's the chief complaint I keep seeing about it。 If you HAVE encountered someone like Stephen, then you know Carola's depiction of him is SPOT ON! The part that really resonated with me was when Dr。 Wattenbarger said that people like him don't change & they don't stop until they have to。 While I did find Lucy's character to be annoying at times (especially when it came to her ED), I really did enjoy watching The people giving this book 1-3 stars must have never met anyone like Stephen, because that's the chief complaint I keep seeing about it。 If you HAVE encountered someone like Stephen, then you know Carola's depiction of him is SPOT ON! Finished the book, wasn’t the biggest fan of the ending。 It needed some serious content warnings。

Tell me lies exceeded my expectations in SO many ways。 I went into it expecting a run of the mill Romance and this was much, much more than that。 This book follows Lucy, she is moving across the country for college, newly single and dealing with the "unforgivable thing"。 When she arrives at college she meets Stephen - he's charming, handsome and everything she thinks she wants, needs。 The only thing is that he's a grade A dickhead and huge narcissist。 This book was everything I love, spanning ov Tell me lies exceeded my expectations in SO many ways。 I went into it expecting a run of the mill Romance and this was much, much more than that。 This book follows Lucy, she is moving across the country for college, newly single and dealing with the "unforgivable thing"。 When she arrives at college she meets Stephen - he's charming, handsome and everything she thinks she wants, needs。 The only thing is that he's a grade A dickhead and huge narcissist。 This book was everything I love, spanning over multiple years, and multiple (two) POV's。 We get insight into Lucy and Stephen's thought processes, and their versions of the same events。 I just love this and I find it so interesting。 Tell me lies doesn't shy away from deeper topics, things like disorder eating, grief, mental illness, relationships, sex and manipulative relationships (there are more too, so if any of that is triggering please look up content warnings or send me a message)。 Overall, I just adored this book and all the characters, Lucy is someone I think we can all see a bit of ourselves in, and watching her come through her hardship was a delight, even if there where some points where I wanted to scream out of frustration。 She has the best friends, and a loving family! Oh and its set between California and New York。。。 maybe 2 of the best locations on the planet! I literally can't wait until the TV Programme comes out。 Please take this as your sign to read it before then, if only so I can have someone else to complain about Stephen to。 。。。more

Made it half way then skipped to the end。 I didn’t love or even love-to-hate the characters or the story line。 Couldn’t get into it but gave it a chance!

Wouldn’t be fair for me to rate this。10 mins into the audiobook and I can already feel my my age。 the mistakes and young romances in these more modern coming-of-age stories are no longer relatable。

Katie Olson

This book is about an abusive young love relationships that spirals around the same storyline the entire book。 After how messed up the book was for it to have such a happy ending was almost comical, the guy is still a jerk and the woman finally realizes that she doesn’t need him to be happy。 I would suggest skipping this one!

If you’re interested in reading this book, please proceed with caution if you have/had any issues with your body image or an eating disorder。 There are so many potentially triggering scenes in this book, enough to where I feel like it’s the first thing I have to talk about。 The characters were the worst, but it was kind of refreshing to read about sucky people who experience realistic outcomes。Definitely do not read this if you’re in the mood for a romance!!!

Omg tak beznadziejnych i denerwujących bohaterów to jeszcze nie spotkałam w żadnej książce。 Niedojrzała drama, za stara jestem na takie historie xd ale dobrze uchwyciła toksycznego typa。

Triggering。 If you’ve ever been in a toxic one-sided relationship with a complete sociopath, this one will trigger the hell out of you。 I was mostly “hate-reading” this book as I was so angry at the characters the entire time。 But it did keep me intrigued enough to see it through。 Save yourself if you don’t want to dredge up memories of your mistakes in love。

Molly Vidler

Wow! Not a book I would normally enjoy but I was thoroughly invested in this story。 Seems odd to read a book but that has no real protagonist, but instead two main characters that you aren’t rooting for。 However, that’s why I enjoyed the book so much。 It felt very real and relatable (somewhat) to that toxic relationship that lots of women get stuck in。 I thought the book ended very beautifully and really enjoyed the side story of Lucy and her mothers relationship。

2。5。 Liked the drama but the story was repetitive and frustrating。

Quick Summary:Lucy is attending college in California when she goes to a house boat party on Lake Mead and meets Stephen。 Stephen isn’t the typical hot guy she would have found attractive but after being asked out numerous times, she finally agrees。 Their relationship is anything but smooth as Stephen is juggling other girls while keeping Lucy as a solid backup plan。 Breaking Lucy’s heart over and over she can’t seem to shake the “love” that she constantly comes back to with Stephen。 What I like Quick Summary:Lucy is attending college in California when she goes to a house boat party on Lake Mead and meets Stephen。 Stephen isn’t the typical hot guy she would have found attractive but after being asked out numerous times, she finally agrees。 Their relationship is anything but smooth as Stephen is juggling other girls while keeping Lucy as a solid backup plan。 Breaking Lucy’s heart over and over she can’t seem to shake the “love” that she constantly comes back to with Stephen。 What I liked about this book:It’s real。 We’ve been there, the one you thought was going to be forever but you’re devastated time and time again。 I also liked that the story went back and forth in the time line of their relationship and told from both perspectives。What I didn’t like about this book:Lucy’s battle with an eating disorder and her constant talking about food or lack there of got redundant。 I understand this is a real issue people face but there wasn’t a chapter that it doesn’t come up。 Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3。5) 。。。more

One of the worst books I’ve ever read。 Just about a terrible, toxic relationship。 The characters are extremely unlikeable。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I enjoyed reading Lucy’s development and her side of everything since it showcases how a toxic relationship can affect your life in so many ways。 I think it’s a very important topic and was portrayed well with Stephen and their dynamic。 Lucy was also very flawed with her hypocrisy and judgment but I believe it made her more realistic。 Now that that’s out of the way- can we address the elephant in the room…HOW STEPHEN IS STRAIGHT UP EVIL?!?!? While this plot line is relatable, it’s frustrating to have to go through so much of the book with zero character development。 The turn in the epilogue is way too quick; I would have found the transition in thought far more interesting to focus on。

Okay I enjoyed this but it kinda just made me mad the whole time。 The most toxic relationship ever and the biggest douchebag of a guy but it kept me intrigued

Alex Walcott

The best parts capture the unique anxiety of 20 something women in the 2010s and how affected we were by both diet culture and shit dating advice。 I saw a lot of parts of college me。 However, the clunk of tossing in a secret manslaughter, the weird mother/daughter feud side story and the glossing over of Lucy’s whole healing process made the book fall flat overall。

𝗗𝗡𝗙Most annoying book I’ve ever read。 Both the female(Lucy) and male(Stephen) characters get on my nerves so much that I couldn’t continue reading this shit。 To put it simply, Lucy is a judgy bitch that can’t help but degrade other girls to uplift herself。 Just shut your boring basic ass up already ugh。 And Stephen…。oh Stephen…man I don’t even wanna discuss about him and that should tell you a lot on how irritating his character is。 Everything is wrong with him。 A walking RED FLAG is what he is。 𝗗𝗡𝗙Most annoying book I’ve ever read。 Both the female(Lucy) and male(Stephen) characters get on my nerves so much that I couldn’t continue reading this shit。 To put it simply, Lucy is a judgy bitch that can’t help but degrade other girls to uplift herself。 Just shut your boring basic ass up already ugh。 And Stephen…。oh Stephen…man I don’t even wanna discuss about him and that should tell you a lot on how irritating his character is。 Everything is wrong with him。 A walking RED FLAG is what he is。 If you don’t wanna deal with constant body-shame, “I’m-not-like-the-other-girls” mindset, comparing skin tones to chocolate caramel dumb fucking something(?!) that makes absolutely no sense then DO NOT READ IT! 。。。more
